It’s difficult for communications professionals with little or no experience with this specific type of change process to gauge the information requirements of managers and employees effectively.
What managers and employees mainly want is to be given detailed information about the facilities that will be provided and the practicalities around moving into and/or delivery of the digital work environment. Generally speaking, they’re not interested in enthusiastic tales of how wonderful everything will be. The project team is often highly enthusiastic about the new way of working.
However, they will need to convey that enthusiasm to managers and employees – although they’re often not aware that this is the case. We help the project team find the right tone. Tell people about the organisation’s own good practices and avoid referring too much to other companies’ best practices. Experience tells us that a relatively large amount of time is spent on helping the staff functions (ICT, Facilities and HR) communicate with their internal customers clearly and in good time.
